Directions:
|
From the Visitor Center in Los Alamos, drive East out of town on Hwy. 502 (Trinity Drive) to Anderson Overlook; proceed East on 502 for a mile and exit on Hwy 4 to White Rock; travel South to the first traffic light and turn left on Rover Blvd.; follow the signs to Overlook Park and the White Rock Overlook; return to Hwy. 4 on Rover and turn left; (an optional visit to Balagna Winery Tasting Room, situated on the rim of White Rock Canyon may be added here - stop at the White Rock Tourist Information Center on Hwy. 4 or call Balagnas for directions); proceed South on Hwy. 4 for 20 miles to reach the Valle Grande, at which there are several overlooks; proceed back East on Hwy. 4 in the direction from which you came 8 miles to the intersection of Hwy. 501; turn left toward Los Alamos and proceed 5 miles to the intersection of Camp May Road (marked with ski area signs); Camp May Road is a paved road that climbs up the mountainside to Pajarito Ski Area and Camp May; Camp May is on a gravel loop road just beyond the ski area; proceed back down Camp May Road to Hwy. 501, turn left, and follow the signs back to Los Alamos. Please note that the roads to the Valle Grande and Camp May can be icy and snowpacked after a winter storm. It is advisable to check on local road conditions before making this loop. |
